Start & listen

Clip-on tuners

Check the tuning modes, readable display, attachment and power requirements. A chromatic tuner displays notes; it does not by itself tell you that a string is in the right octave.

Before you choose

Follow the instrument and tuner instructions. Ask for a demonstration if tuning is unfamiliar.

Guitar picks

Compare shape, grip and stated thickness. A small variety can let you explore feel, but a large pack is not evidence of better playing.

Before you choose

Start with a pick you can hold comfortably and use gentle strokes. Personal preference matters.

Music stands

Compare usable height, tray size, stability and how the stand holds a book or printed sheet. A compact folding size tells you little about support while open.

Before you choose

Place the music where you can read without constantly changing your playing position.

Fit & protect

Guitar straps

Check width, adjustment and attachment compatibility. A strap included in a bundle may still need a compatible instrument fastening arrangement.

Before you choose

Follow the guitar and strap makers’ instructions. Do not assume every guitar has two suitable strap buttons.

Fit & protect

Guitar stands

Check intended instrument shapes and finish compatibility. Support points, retaining parts and stability matter more than a universal label.

Before you choose

Confirm your guitar’s finish and the stand’s contact materials with their makers; avoid an unstable location.

Fit & protect

Gig bags

Match the exact guitar dimensions and body shape to the inside measurements. Acoustic, classical and electric bags are not interchangeable merely because they say guitar.

Before you choose

A padded bag is not automatically a protective flight case. Choose for the actual journey and load.

Capos

Compare intended neck width, fretboard shape and adjustment. A capo for one guitar family may not fit another well.

Before you choose

A capo changes the open-string reference; our open-chord pages assume standard tuning without a capo.

Steel-string acoustic sets

Check the guitar maker’s compatible string type and gauge. Pack descriptions vary; keep the specification of the existing suitable set if you want a like-for-like replacement.

Before you choose

Do not substitute steel strings for nylon on a guitar designed for nylon. Seek model-specific guidance before changing type or gauge.

Strings & electric

Classical nylon-string sets

Compare intended instrument, tension and bridge-end requirements. “Nylon” describes a guitar family even when some of the set has wound strings.

Before you choose

Match your instrument’s instructions. A beginner should not infer compatibility from appearance alone.

Electric guitar strings

Check string count, gauge and the instrument maker’s requirements. Different gauges can affect the setup; a new set does not fix every buzzing or playability issue.

Before you choose

If changing specification, get appropriate setup advice rather than making untested neck adjustments.

Instrument cables

Check connector type, length and the intended connection. An instrument cable is not a speaker cable, and similar-looking plugs do not make all uses interchangeable.

Before you choose

Follow the amplifier and guitar instructions. Keep cable routing practical and clear of the walking route.

Small practice amplifiers

Compare inputs, output controls and any headphone support against the exact product instructions. Confirm whether headphones, power supply or other extras are needed.

Before you choose

Start at low volume. A headphone socket alone does not establish compatibility with every headset or listening arrangement.
